Harltex: Experts in rubber materials for compounds and components

At Harltex, material selection starts with the application. Rather than offering a single solution, we work with a range of established rubber compounds chosen to meet specific performance, compliance, and manufacturing requirements. Operating conditions, service life, and production method all play a role in determining the most suitable material.

From early discussion through to manufacture, we support customers in selecting materials that are both technically appropriate and commercially viable.

What materials do Harltex provide?

At this stage, factors such as temperature exposure, chemical contact, dimensional stability, and relevant standards are considered alongside production volume, tooling approach, and suitability for extrusion or moulding.

By reviewing these factors early, we help reduce risk during manufacture and avoid material choices that may limit performance or process capability later on.

Materials can be supplied to customer specifications, or selected from Harltex standard compound ranges where appropriate.

  • FKM (Fluoroelastomer / Viton®)

  • EPDM (Including WRAS)

  • Natural Rubber

  • NBR (Nitrile Rubber)

  • HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber)

  • EN682 Gas NBR

  • AEM (Acrylic Rubber)

  • ECO (Epichlorohydrin Rubber)

What is FKM (Fluoroelastomer / Viton®)

FKM is used where resistance to high temperature, fuels, oils, and aggressive chemicals is required. Harltex supplies FKM compounds suitable for extrusion and moulding applications.

Typical applications include Aerospace, Automotive, Rail, and Industrial sealing, where reduced permeability and thermal stability are important.

What materials do Harltex provide?

FKM (Fluoroelastomer / Viton®)

FKM is used where resistance to High temperature, Fuels, Oils, and Aggressive Chemicals is required. Harltex supplies FKM compounds suitable for extrusion and moulding applications.

Typical applications include Aerospace, Automotive, Rail, Construction and Industrial sealing, where reduced permeability and thermal stability are important.

NBR and EN682 Gas NBR (Nitrile Rubber)

NBR is a general-purpose elastomer widely used for Oil and Fuel resistance in industrial environments. Our NBR or EN682 Gas NBR compounds offer a balance of mechanical performance, process stability, and Cost-sensitive projects.

Common applications include Seals, Profiles, and Moulded components for general industrial use.

HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber)

HNBR is a high-performance elastomer derived from standard NBR by hydrogenating the polymer backbone. This hydrogenation significantly improves heat resistance compared to NBR (typically up to 150°C–165°C, depending on grade). while retaining good resistance to oils and fuels. It offers higher temperature capability, strong mechanical properties, and good wear and fatigue resistance, making it suitable for demanding dynamic applications.

Typical applications include automotive and industrial seals, oil and gas components, and parts exposed to elevated temperatures, oils, and long service requirements where standard NBR is not sufficient, but FKM is not required.

Common applications include Seals, Profiles, and Moulded components for general industrial use.

EPDM (Including WRAS-Approved Grades)

EPDM is selected for applications involving Water, Weathering, and Outdoor exposure. Harltex supplies EPDM compounds, including WRAS-approved grades for potable water contact.

EPDM is commonly used in Construction, Utilities, and Infrastructure projects requiring long-term durability.

Specialist & Approved Materials

For applications requiring additional approvals or enhanced performance, Harltex supplies specialist compounds, including materials developed to meet fire performance standards such as EN 45545 HL2 and HL3.

Where required, materials can be selected or developed to meet customer-specific technical or regulatory requirements.

Materials can be supplied as:

  • Rubber compound

  • Extruded profiles and cord

  • Moulded rubber components

Our technical team supports material selection based on application conditions, compliance needs, and manufacturing feasibility.
